Randy... you might get along with Garen Daly - a cinema guy, especially science fiction, and probably no stranger to diners, but also a thrifty and thoughtful person.
Randy, your work shows real talent if not, indeed, a gift. Your work is clean and appealing in a style that draws the eye and touches a part of us that calls us to appreciate a more simple life. I like your use of different wood types and grains.
You have made several statements in your essay that indicate an awareness of the decline of our cities and therefore a like decline in us. I believe through your art there is a message to those that will hear and see, there is a better way to live in our communities. The man that can make things with his hands will make friends with his heart.
Thank you for this ! My dad and mom built their own house, literally 3 blocks from where I live now. It's all about the skills you have. Dad taught me everything I needed to know. Now, If i don't know how to do something, there are hundreds of YouTube videos showing how to do ANYTHING. They've helped me get NEW skills. Thank you for continuing the cause.
This hits home hard to me. As the son of a PhD father, and mother with a Master’s in library science, it was just expected that I would go to college. I wanted to join the Air Force after high school, but in 1973 as Vietnam was winding down, that wasn’t a popular choice. So I went to community college and got a degree in drafting and design, which I actually enjoyed. Then my father found a program for community college transfers to a program in mechanical technology. So I went, wasting three years of time and money. I finally decided, enough. I announced I was leaving college to become an over the road truck driver. 42 years of doing what I wanted was the best thing. I was never. rich, but always had a few dollars in my pocket. I provided for my wife and I. Not everyone needs to go to college. We do need the “ hands on” people to keep things going.
So it's been inactive for more than ten years... it's still good stuff.
And while I don't know him, I'd bet he's STILL an interesting guy.

We need to start thinking about that. Thank you.
